I Guess I Am Addicted to Caffeine After All

coffeesmile

Despite not really following the Food Lover’s Cleanse strictly, I thought I would give up coffee, alcohol, sugar, bread/pasta, and dairy for a few days, just to see what happens. I’ve always said that when it comes to coffee, I can take it or leave it. I absolutely love coffee and believe it has more health benefits than negative effects, but I only enjoy one cup a day–usually a double espresso I make at home. It never makes me jittery, I have zero issues with falling asleep, and if I go a day without it I’m just fine.

Now that it’s my 6th day off coffee, let me tell you I am feeling it. I feel like I’ve had a mild headache for two days straight. Yeah, it could be something else–I was feeling a little under the weather earlier this week. But most likely it’s caffeine withdrawal, yikes! Didn’t think it would happen to me but it’s happenin’. I can’t wait to make me a delicious pre-workout double espresso tomorrow morning :)

Do you drink coffee everyday? Have you ever experienced caffeine withdrawal?

  1. I did a 3-day juice cleanse last week and you’re not supposed to drink coffee but I said to hell with that and started the day with one cup. The juice cleanse helped me cut out the afternoon cup that I used to really need because I would be dragging, so it’s nice to be down to one cup a day. Coffee has health benefits (prevention of Alzheimer’s? Heart disease?) so everything in moderation in my opinion!

    • Yeah I’m a believer that coffee is good for you! Or at least most people…I know everyone’s body is different and some people don’t respond to it well. What is it about the juices that you think helped you cut out the afternoon cup?

  2. I went off coffee & all caffeine for two weeks in the fall and it really sucked! The first couple days I felt so out of it and mornings were rough. I missed it a lot though haha. I only drink a cup a day at work and it makes everything so much better! Lately I’ve been very into brewing loose leaf tea so I drink that whenever I’m home :)

    • Agreed that it makes everything so much better haha. I do the same thing and it works well for me–one cup of coffee in the morning and then switch to tea/water for the rest of the day.
